Proposition 8 is a Constitutional amendment initiative that eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry within the state. Defines marriage as only between one man and one woman. The proposition is a reaction to a May 2008 Supreme Court ruling that struck down a 2000 law that restricted same sex couples from marriage under the equal protection clause of the California Constitution.
A “Yes” vote means that the State Constitution would change to say that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. This would mean that same-sex couples do not have a right to marry.
- After the state Legislature defined marriage as the union between one man and one woman in 1977 and the people voted to keep it that way in 2000, the rule of a few Supreme Court Justices have contradicted the will of the people
- It must be a Constitutional amendment, to settle this once and for all
- Could be a slippery slope where other people's rights are infringed upon
- Children should not be taught about same sex unions of any kind at inappropriate ages by the state
A “No” vote means that same sex couples will be allowed to marry and an amendment would not be made to the State Constitution.
- The will of the people was already communicated twice, when the state Legislature voted in favor of same sex marriage
- Marriage is the right of all consenting adults regardless of the gender chosen
- The Supreme Court was ensuring equal protection under the law for all citizens
- The views of Californians are changing, and gay marriage is becoming more accepted every year

Wisdom from a founding father
A Bill of Rights is what the people are entitled to against every government, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on inference.
Thomas Jefferson
A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.
Thomas Jefferson
All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression.
Thomas Jefferson
Now I know that supporters of Prop 8 are going to say that marriage is not a right....just remember that once the government starts parsing out the judgement on who is and is not deserving of marriage, no marriage is safe and all marriages lose the sacredness that is its defining characteristic.
No place for government
The government has no business regulating peaceful people's personal lives. Prop 8 does nothing but promote intolerance. Our government is supposed to ensure equality for all its citizens, not prevent it.

The People Have Spoken - A Million to One
The people of California voted in 2000 to MAINTAIN MARRIAGE BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN ~ 4 million of them!
4 California Supreme Court Judges overruled the will of the people. That is one vote by a judge to a million votes of the people of California!
However you feel about marriage, you should most concerned about this process being corrupted.
If WE THE PEOPLE vote on something, then that is what should stand. WE THE PEOPLE will have no voice if we don't fight back against rogue judges who substitute their own opinons in the place of the will of the people. THE JUDGES GOT IT WRONG!
I am voting YES ON 8 - to substantiate the will of the people, to put this vote beyond the reach of rogue judges, to protect/preserve marriage as it has been since the beginning of time and to maintain the separation of Church/family and State so that schools cannot indocrinate children with same-sex marriage as being 'equal' to traditional marriage.
Oh those wacky Mormons are up to it again!
Trace it back and see who is behind this whole thing!
The fact that this is even on the ballet is so ridiculous it just boggles the mind! not to mention i am paying tax dolors for this stupid waist of time! that starts to piss me off! Its this idea that one bunch of folks want to IMPOSE there ideas and beliefs on others that galls me.
these are the types that want everyone to believe as they do. crazy! thats just my opinion! and i am welcome to it but i wouldn't have them locked up for it like they would me if i dare go up against there religious or ideological rantings. VOTE NO! its not only wrong and prejudice its STUPID! Im not gay but i live around them and i don't give a toss what they do. WHY because they don't impose it on me and as well there "GAY" wont rub off or infect my Kid. And besides they have such nice yards!
